VANKLEEK HILL – An event for men and women who are 50 years of age and over is taking place on October 19, 2014 at Vankleek Hill Collegiate Institute (VCI) from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event, called 50+ATTITUDE! is an idea which sprang from an annual luncheon event, organized by Hillcrest Funeral Home. When Lisa Henderson, co-owner of Hillcrest Funeral Home, met with Review publisher Louise Sproule to discuss the keynote presenters at the spring luncheon, the two decided that they wanted to try a larger event which presented information in a fun environment to those 50 and over.

There will be booths sold to area businesses who offer services of interest to baby-boomers. Already booked at 50+ATTITUDE! are a computer repair services, real estate, a retirement home, a photographer and an appraiser/auction house, just to name a few. Inside the VCI cafetorium, about 23 area businesses will be present with some fun offerings and important information. There will be about five food vendors, three of which are already confirmed for the event. In front of the stage there will be tables and chairs for relaxing, eating and taking in the shows scheduled for the main stage area. Shows will take place at the top of the hour beginning at 11 a.m. until 4 p.m.

In the library, presenters will address subjects such as internet and home computer security, meditation, digital photography, how to write your autobiography and much more.

One corridor of the school will be called, “Wellness Way”, will be home to local wellness and healthy practitioners who will share their knowledge with you and answer your questions.

The next hallway will be the “Community Corner”, where area not-for-profit organizations will be on hand to share information about their club or group and will talk to you about volunteer opportunities and other ways to get involved. Your group can have a table in the “Community Corner” by calling Sharon at The Review at 613-678-3327, extension 1001 or contact Lisa Henderson at 613-678-2002. These spaces are being offered at greatly-reduced rates for not-for-profit or charitable organizations.

And of course, there will be lots of merchandise for sale, offered by local or area businesses and artisans. These vendors will be located along the hallway near the library and at the end of this hallway, the VCI Library will be holding a used book sale to raise funds for the purchase of new books and materials for the school library.

Speaking of the VCI Library, 50+ATTITUDE will share proceeds from the event with the VCI Library and with Champlain Library for the purchase of biographies. Because 50+ATTITUDE! is about living life to the fullest, Henderson and Sproule thought it made sense to ensure that inspirational life stories be available to inspire students and everyone in the community.

And perhaps: the best for last: admission to the event is free, but you must have a ticket as quantities are limited. Tickets will be available later this week at The Review offices and at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Vankleek Hill. If you are part of an organization which caters to those in the 50+ age range, call 613-678-2002 to arrange for a block of tickets for your group.
Show space was 75 per cent sold out as of Monday. If you, your organization or your business wants to book space, call Sharon at 613-678-3327, extension 1001.
